FEAST OF THE PRESENTATION OF OUR LORD AT THE TEMPLE
The Blessing of the Candles and the Procession
Today, the faithful gather with unlighted candles with the priest who wears white vestments for the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass with Chant sung for a procession, and he states:
“Dear Brethren, forty days have passed since we celebrated the joyful feast of the Nativity of the Lord. Today is the blessed day when Jesus was presented in the Temple by Mary and Joseph. Outwardly, he was fulfilling the Law, but in reality, He was coming to meet His believing people. Prompted by the Holy Spirit, Simeon and Anna came to the Temple. Enlightened by the same Spirit, they recognized the Lord and confessed Him with exultation. So let us also, gathered together by the Holy Spirit, proceed to the house of God to encounter Christ. There we shall find him and recognize him in the breaking of the bread, until He comes again revealed in glory.”
Then, after this address, the priest blesses the candles:
PRIEST: “O God, source and origin of all light, who on this day showed to the just man, Simeon the light for revelation to the Gentiles, we humbly ask that, in answer to your people’s prayers, you may be pleased to sanctify with your blessing + these candles, which we are eager to carry in praise of your name, so that treading the path of virtue, we may reach that light which never fails. Through Christ our Lord.”

[ZOSIA]: Let's begin: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit... Amen.
VIRGIN MOST RESIGNED, who did feel your soul transfixed with sorrow when in spirit you did foresee all the bitter passion of your Son, and, knowing the grief of Joseph, your spouse, for all your sufferings, did with holy words console him: pierce through and through our souls with true sorrow for our sins, that we may one day have the consolation to be made partakers of your glory in Heaven.
Most compassionate Jesus, Thou art Compassion Itself. We bring lukewarm souls into the abode of Thy Most Compassionate Heart. In this fire of Thy pure love let these tepid souls, so filled with loathing, be once again set aflame. O Most Compassionate Jesus, exercise the omnipotence of Thy mercy and draw them into the ardor of Thy love; and bestow upon them the gift of holy love, for nothing is beyond Thy power.
Fire and ice cannot be joined; either the fire dies, or the ice melts but Thy mercy, O God, makes up for all that is lacking.
Eternal Father, turn Thy merciful gaze upon lukewarm souls, who are nonetheless enfolded in the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. O Holy Spirit, we beg Thee by the bitter Passion of Jesus and by His three-hour agony on the Cross: let them, too, glorify the abyss of Thy mercy. Amen.

Lord Jesus, Who went up to the Temple as a child, grant us to know Thy presence and mercy in our lives and in our community so that we may declare the Good News of Thy love for all.

We offer Thee, O Lord Jesus, this fourth decade in honor of Thy Presentation in the temple by the hands of Mary, and we ask of Thee, through this mystery and through the intercession of Thy Blessed Mother, the gift of wisdom and purity of heart and body.

Rules for the Proper Observance of Novenas
By St. Alphonsus Liguori
1. THE soul must be in the state of grace; for the devotion of a sinful heart pleases neither God nor the saints.
2. We must persevere, that is, the prayers for each day of the novena must never be omitted. 3. If possible, we should visit a church every day, and there implore the favor we desire.
4. Every day we ought to perform certain specified acts of exterior self-denial and interior mortification, in order to prepare us thereby for the reception of grace.
5. It is most important that we receive holy communion when making a novena. Therefore prepare yourself well for it.
6. After obtaining the desired grace for which the novena was made, do not omit to return thanks to God and to the saint through whose intercession your prayers were heard.

On Feb. 5, is the Memorial of St. Paul Miki and Martyrs, and it happens to be the same day that Pope Leo XIII said today, when Our Lady returns, she will return to England:
長崎県北西部に位置する平戸は、1550年にフランシスコ・ザビエルが訪れて以来、日本のキリスト教の歴史に関わって来た。現在、百年以上の歴史を誇るものなど多数の教会があり、ポルトガルやスペインの宣教師達の足跡をみることができる。ザビエル布教活動を振り返りながら、重要な教会群を訪ねた。
平戸での2年3か月の布教活動
長崎県の北西部に位置する平戸の歴史は、イエズス会宣教師、聖フランシスコ・ザビエル（ハビエル、1506 - 1552年）が1550年夏に平戸に上陸したことによって大きな歴史的な転機を迎えた。日本ではあまりにも有名なスペイン人ザビエルは1549年、鹿児島に上陸し、やがて平戸を拠点に、日本国内での布教活動を展開した。ザビエルの日本での布教活動は条件付ながら2年3か月に及んだ。
ザビエルは鹿児島で約100人の日本人をキリスト教に改宗させ、キリストの教えと仏教の考え方に共通するものがあることを見出していたと言われている。しかし、1550年6月に平戸にポルトガル船が寄港したと聞いたザビエルは、同年9月にはコスメ・デ・トーレス神父と宣教師フアン・フェルナンデスとともに平戸に移住した。
このため、鹿児島での布教活動は日本初のキリシタンとなったアンジロウ（ヤジロウ、後にはパオロ・デ・サンタフェとしても知られる）に委ねられた。実は、ザビエルの日本上陸のきっけとなったのが、アンジロウだった。ザビエルとアンジロウは、当時の国際交易の重要な要塞都市であったマラッカ（マレーシア）で出会った。アンジロウの生涯について信頼できる資料や証拠はないが、薩摩（鹿児島）で殺人を犯してポルトガル船で海外に逃亡していたと言われている。マラッカでザビエルと出会った後、1549年に鹿児島に戻った。
